Serve-Out together because service starts in you
Serve a type of bread for breakfast (toast, cinnamon rolls, bagels) and open a discussion about needs and wants using these
- What type of bread do you like best?
- What is your favorite food and/or drink?
- What food satisfies your hunger most?
- What drink satisfies your thirst most?
- What do you think Jesus meant when said He is the
Bread of Life? (John 6:35)
Food and drink satisfy your body’s basic physical needs. When Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life,” (John 6:48) He was saying that He is to our soul what food and drink are to our body. He satisfies our deepest need. When our needs are met, we are free to meet the needs of others.
Galatians 5:13b “…use your freedom to serve one another in love.”
Jesus wants to use YOU to serve others! When we meet physical needs, we often have an opportunity to meet their spiritual needs as well! One ministry our church regularly makes available to serve others is Bellevue Loves Memphis. In 2007, Pastor Steve Gaines led our church to begin Bellevue Loves Memphis to show Jesus’ love to our city by meeting the practical needs of residents.
“Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare.”Jeremiah 29:7

I would say the big win for us in Bellevue Loves Memphis projects is simply spending time together in an environment that reinforces to my boys that there is something bigger than them and bigger than the bubble they live in (neighborhood, church, school). It’s important our kids realize the responsibility that comes with blessing—the blessing of knowing Christ, a loving family, health, food on our plates and clothes on our backs—all of it. Because of that blessing, there is AWESOME RESPONSIBILITY. We want to serve alongside our children so they can see active Christianity. If our children don’t see it in us then in whom will they see it?
